I Have a Plan Iowa
Students will begin an IHAPI portfolio during 8th grade year.
HOW TO DOCUMENT IT:
1. Login to https://procenter.ihaveaplaniowa.gov/
2. Click "STUDENTS & GROUPS"
3. Look up the student and click on their name.
4. Click "Career Planning"
5. Click "All About You" for information on Career Interests
**This info goes on the B page under "Interests" and possibly "Work Results"
6. Back up and click "Career Plans" for information on Career Clusters.
**This info goes on B page under "Work Results" and "Postsecondary Expectation for Working"
Note: The directions above explain simply how to document the info for a compliant IEP as required by law. IHAPI is not a test; it's a toolbox. There is a crazy amount of really good assessments and surveys kids can explore. Best practice would be to use the tools available as a variety of transition assessments, and have students reflect and explain their choices wherever possible. I see IHAPI as a collection of high-interest, practical, and relevant transition assessments that can provide a wealth of information upon which we can base decisions.
This is GRADE specific, not AGE specific (unlike the Transition IEP). If a kid has a transition IEP but is not in 8th grade (or vice-versa), see below:
Not an 8th grader, but it's a transition IEP? No problem! Put something like this on B page under "Requirements needed to graduate" and "Activities needed to pursue PSE:"
**** will need to explore career interests, pathways, and clusters using I Have A Plan Iowa during 8th grade year.
It gets better. IF the kid is a 12-year old 8th grader, report the IHAPI information under "Other info."
IHAPI Resource Library - pretty much anything a teacher could want to know.
